Brazil’s NFL Debut Ends in Drama: Jordan Love’s Injury and Eagles’ Last-Minute Victory Over Packers

In a heart-stopping finish, Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love took a hard hit in the dying seconds of his team’s 34-29 defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

As the clock ticked down, Love, trying to pull off a last-minute miracle from deep in his own territory, found himself tangled up with Eagles defenders. On the second-to-last play, Love managed to flip a pass to running back Josh Jacobs before hitting the ground. Unfortunately, the injury left him writhing in pain and requiring assistance to limp off the field.

In Love’s absence, former Titans QB Malik Willis, who was acquired by the Packers this offseason, took over the reins for the final two plays.

With the NFL making its South American debut, the Eagles made history with this win. The Neo Quimica Arena, packed with fans, witnessed a thrilling game where Saquon Barkley emerged as the standout performer. Barkley, making his debut for Philadelphia, racked up three touchdowns and 132 total yards, bouncing back from a shaky start where he slipped on his initial play.

Eagles QB Jalen Hurts also made his mark, throwing for 278 yards and two touchdowns despite tossing two interceptions and fumbling once after a botched snap with new center Cameron Jurgens. The Eagles narrowly avoided disaster in the final minute when a potential fumble at the goal line nearly cost them the game.

Love, who was poised for a breakout second year after a strong playoff run last season, had been solid before his injury, throwing for 260 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. Despite putting the Packers in position to seize control late in the game, he couldn’t break through on the final five drives, managing just a field goal in the last 27 minutes.

If Love’s injury sidelines him for an extended period, Green Bay will lean heavily on Willis. The Packers’ upcoming schedule features games against the Colts, Titans, and Vikings—all teams that missed the playoffs last year—before facing a tougher slate starting Week 5 against the Los Angeles Rams.
