Rutgers football is set to continue its strong start to the season with a matchup against Akron today at SHI Stadium.
The Scarlet Knights are fresh off a decisive 44-7 triumph over Howard, while the Zips suffered a defeat last week on the road, falling 52-26 to No. 2 Ohio State.
Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano and Akron head coach Joe Moorhead are well-acquainted. They faced off from 2009-11, when Schiano was leading Rutgers for the first time and Moorhead was the offensive coordinator at UConn. They met again in 2016-17, with Schiano serving as the defensive coordinator at Ohio State and Moorhead as the OC at Penn State.
This will mark only the second encounter between Rutgers and Akron, the first being on October 27, 1990, when Rutgers secured a 20-17 win in Piscataway.
